Background
Pinsent Masons has hired Ian Stott to establish and lead its new financial regulatory consulting practice. Stott will join Vario, the law firm’s legal services delivery arm, working alongside specialists across the firm to strengthen existing offerings and build out non-legal regulatory conduct and financial crime advisory and remediation services.
Stott moves from Konexo, Eversheds Sutherland’s legal services delivery division, where he served as Managing Director and led its financial regulatory and compliance consulting team, covering regulatory conduct and financial crime advisory and remediation work.
The new practice will add to Pinsent Masons’ financial services offering, which spans Finance & Restructuring, Financial Regulation, Litigation, Contentious Regulatory and Remediation, Financial Crime, Insurance, Investment Funds and Pensions & Long-term Savings, while complementing the firm’s Litigation & Regulatory practice on financial crime matters.
Stott’s team will help clients manage rising regulatory and societal pressures, including expanding FCA supervision, compliance scrutiny and anti-financial crime oversight, and address weaknesses in systems, controls and governance frameworks.
A team of senior financial regulatory specialists will join Pinsent Masons Vario alongside Stott. Matthew Kay, Partner and Head of Pinsent Masons Vario, called the appointment an important step for the firm, pointing to growing client demand for hybrid solutions that combine legal expertise with new delivery models for complex regulatory projects.
Jonathan Cavill, Head of the firm’s FS Contentious Regulatory and Remediation practice, said Stott’s arrival strengthens the firm’s ability to support clients on complex regulatory matters.
Stott said UK financial services firms face a landscape shaped by complexity and risk, and said Pinsent Masons’ continued investment in its City practice positions him to help clients navigate these challenges.
