Background-
National law firm Shakespeare Martineau has improved its standing in the latest Legal 500 UK and Chambers UK guides, winning new individual and team rankings across several practice areas.
In Chambers UK, the firm gained a new practice area entry and moved up a band in four areas. The number of individually ranked lawyers grew from 45 to 48. The firm holds 28 rankings in total, including eight in Band 1 and eight in Band 2.
Legal 500 gave the firm 19 Tier 1 rankings and recognised 70 lawyers across 59 areas of law. Four teams moved up a tier, and three teams earned new entries. Eleven lawyers also gained new individual rankings.
Managing director Victoria Tester said the results reflect the quality of the firm’s work for clients and the depth of its expertise. She welcomed the new individual rankings and the progress in areas where the firm has been building its presence.
Mark Beesley kept his Eminent Practitioner ranking in Chambers UK, while Peter Snodgrass and Simon Stanion held their Senior Statesperson status. Three lawyers stayed in the Legal 500 Hall of Fame: Smita Jamdar, Andrew Whitehead and Lesley Davis.
Both guides base their rankings on independent research, including client feedback and interviews with lawyers and other market participants.
