Background-

Dr. Charles Osuji, CEO and Managing Partner of Osuji & Smith Lawyers, has wrapped up two executive-level courses at Harvard University.

The law school course, Leadership in Law Firms, looked at how legal practices operate. Topics included strategy, governance, profits, pay, talent and innovation. The business school course, Program for Leadership Development, took a wider lens on management through finance, marketing, analytics, digital change and global leadership.

The firm said the first course showed Osuji how to lead a law firm, and the second showed him how to lead a complex business. It added that sound legal advice rests on sound leadership, so its senior team keeps learning from top experts.

McMaster University’s DeGroote School of Business had already named Osuji a Chartered Director shortly before he completed the Harvard work.

Osuji moved to Canada as a lawyer trained overseas, cleared the licensing steps and built his practice into one of the country’s largest Black-owned law firms. He has collected more than 140 local, provincial and national awards.

The firm plans to put his learning to work by creating dependable systems, preparing future leaders and improving how clients experience its services.

The legal work at Osuji & Smith Lawyers spans employment, litigation and business law. Its offices stand in Calgary, Toronto, Vancouver and Dubai, and its team serves clients in more than 32 languages.
