Background
Vietnam is accelerating efforts to strengthen its legal and regulatory framework to support high-tech investment, digital transformation and intellectual property protection, according to senior government leaders during meetings with Amazon executives this month.
Vietnamese leaders said the country is committed to creating a transparent and business-friendly environment for global technology companies. Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, Big Data, digital infrastructure and workforce development.
Party General Secretary and President To Lam encouraged Amazon to support Vietnam’s national strategy for science, technology and innovation. He called for deeper cooperation in AI development, data infrastructure and talent training to support the country’s long-term digital growth plans.
Amazon executive David Zapolsky expressed confidence in Vietnam’s economic and technology potential, stating that the company sees strong opportunities for future expansion in the country. He said Vietnam could emerge as an important technology and manufacturing hub in the region.
The discussions also covered plans related to low-Earth orbit satellite internet services and the possible expansion of Amazon’s manufacturing activities for selected export products.
Vietnamese officials encouraged greater investment in technology infrastructure, partnerships with local companies and technology transfer initiatives.
The Ministry of Science and Technology said it is prepared to work closely with relevant agencies to support research, production and investment activities in line with Vietnamese regulations.
Industry experts said Vietnam’s push for legal reforms and digital investment reflects the country’s growing focus on attracting global technology companies and strengthening its position in the regional technology sector.
