Background

Sarah Barr-Young, a senior family lawyer at Jones Myers, has been appointed to the board of the Harrogate Business Improvement District, bringing her legal expertise and deep local roots to the organisation’s second term.

Barr-Young heads the Financial Remedies Department at Jones Myers’ Harrogate office. She joins a voluntary board of directors responsible for delivering BID’s plan to support and improve the town centre for businesses, visitors, and residents.

Born and raised in Harrogate, she brings extensive experience in complex financial disputes, high net worth cases, business property portfolios, pensions on divorce, and out-of-court negotiations.

Barr-Young said she was honoured to contribute to BID’s strategy and looked forward to helping local businesses tackle issues affecting the town.

She noted that her work at Jones Myers already puts her in regular contact with a wide range of local companies, which she sees as an advantage in her new board role.

Harrogate BID has recorded a strong run of achievements over the past year. Its Street Rangers programme has improved the town’s visual appearance, while new partnerships with police, councils, and voluntary organisations have strengthened community ties.

The organisation also recruited a Business Crime Officer and secured funding for measures targeting anti-social behaviour. A new IT system that tracks spending across the BID area is also now in place.

Jason Maxwell, Chief Executive of Harrogate BID, welcomed Barr-Young’s appointment and said her experience with local companies and commitment to the town centre fitted well with the organisation’s values.

Andrew Fox, director and in-house barrister at Jones Myers, described the appointment as a positive step for both the firm and the wider Harrogate community.
