Freeths, the national law firm, has posted record results for its latest financial year, with turnover climbing more than 12% to £187.6 million and profit rising 8.2% alongside a major investment program.
The results mark the firm’s fourth straight year of double-digit growth. Turnover has grown 83% over the past five years.
Deeper ties with established clients, more new instructions and rising demand for specialist advice on regulatory change and shifting market conditions fueled the momentum.
Corporate, Employment, and Planning and Environment teams led the way, lifting turnover 24%, 33% and 27%. Clients sought advice on deals, workplace reform and major infrastructure projects.
Aldi, Mercedes-Benz and Barratt stayed on Freeths’ client list, while Holland & Barrett, Finance Earth and ExCeL London signed up as new names. New client wins grew 9%, while turnover from its top 50 clients rose 11%.
Freeths advised Centrica on its roughly £370 million purchase of the Severn Combined-Cycle Gas Turbine power station, guided Gleeds on contracts linked to the £136 billion Sellafield decommissioning program, and represented Equiniti in a major data protection case heading to the Supreme Court.
London grew turnover 22%, Bristol 21% and Glasgow 43%. The firm welcomed 187 new colleagues, made 16 lateral partner hires, promoted 86 people including 14 partners, and paid £4.3 million in staff bonuses. It also moved its Clinical Negligence and Court of Protection teams to Fletchers Group to focus investment on core growth areas, including Private Client Services.
