Background
Novara is a new global law firm that has just opened offices in Singapore, Tokyo, London and New York, all of which are in a bid to deliver legal, investment banking and strategic advice to its clients through the use of artificial intelligence.
The firm is led by Global Managing Partner Marcus Wolter and starts with a core team of 11 senior partners and associates. In New York, Novara has expanded its reach through a partnership with US law firm Bochner, giving it access to more than 40 lawyers across the country.
Key leadership appointments include Lukas Kratochvil as Office Managing Partner for Tokyo and Head of Legal Practice Asia, while Ai-Jo Wu will lead the Singapore office. The firm said it will announce its New York office managing partner later this year.
Novara has structured its business around three areas: investment banking, corporate legal services and strategy advisory. Its main practice areas include corporate law, commercial matters, mergers and acquisitions, structured finance, funds, intellectual property and regulatory services.
The firm chose Singapore as its regional hub because of its strong regulatory environment, international talent pool and role in cross-border business. Japan was picked since there have been a lot of mergers and acquisitions that involve Japanese firms.
Further, Novara plans to continue expanding in the Asia-Pacific region as well as adding another regional center. In addition, the company intends to expand by partnering with other law firms instead of setting up offices everywhere.
In its first year, Novara plans to concentrate on improving its services, developing its AI framework and executing successful projects for its clients.
