Background:
The Legal Lexi helps law firms make sure clients understand costs and agreements, reducing disputes.
It was created by Victoria Morrison-Hughes, an experienced costs lawyer, in response to the growing number of fee-related disagreements between solicitors and clients, including complaints to the Legal Ombudsman.
Under the Consumer Rights Act, contracts must be clear, fair, and transparent to be legally enforceable. Morrison-Hughes explained that even reasonable costs can be challenged if clients do not clearly understand what they are agreeing to.
“The Legal Lexi is built on the principle that clear, accessible communication is not just good practice, it is a powerful form of protection for both clients and firms,” Morrison-Hughes said. She added that solicitors face increasing complexity, from regulatory expectations and consumer law requirements to vulnerability guidance and complaint management, all while trying to deliver effective legal outcomes.
The platform simplifies complex legal and cost information into easy-to-understand language and also offers audio explanations. Clients are guided through important details and answer short, structured questions, helping law firms show that clients fully understand and agree to the terms.
Morrison-Hughes said the platform is designed to help solicitors without creating extra work, making it easier for firms to meet their responsibilities. It is especially helpful for clients with dyslexia or other needs, ensuring no one feels pressured or uncomfortable when agreeing to terms.
Sucheet Amin has joined The Legal Lexi as an investor and non-executive director. He will focus on the platform’s growth, product development, and operations.
“What stood out to me about The Legal Lexi was its practical approach to the challenges solicitors face,” Amin said. “Transparency and client understanding are now central to regulatory and consumer expectations, and the platform offers a real solution that works in day-to-day practice. It can reduce disputes and complaints while giving solicitors confidence in their processes.”
With its focus on clear and accessible communication, The Legal Lexi is proving to be a useful tool for law firms, helping solicitors and clients communicate better and build trust.
