Background:
East Midlands law firm Nelsons has strengthened its commerce and technology team by appointing Cathy Clark as its new Legal Director. The move shows the firm’s focus on building expert teams and improving services for clients in the fast-growing digital and data fields.
Clark brings over 20 years of legal experience to the position. She began her career at Freeths, qualifying as a solicitor in 2010 after being a fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives. Over the years, she has worked in both private practice and in-house legal roles, including seven years at Equifax, where she gained strong experience in data, software, and technology law.
Born and raised in Nottingham, Clark said she was drawn to Nelsons for its strong professional reputation and values-driven culture. “After spending the last decade working in-house, I felt it was the right time to return to private practice,” she said. Nelsons stood out to me for its professionalism, culture, and forward-thinking approach. I’m particularly excited to focus on data protection and GDPR, supporting clients with compliance and technology-related legal matters.”
Clark’s appointment will further strengthen Nelson’s support for clients in key areas such as software licensing, commercial contracts, and data protection, all of which are becoming increasingly important for businesses in the digital age.
Emma Toes, Partner in the Commerce and Technology team, said, “Cathy’s experience and commitment to great client service fit perfectly with Nelson’s values. Her expertise will help our team grow and continue providing strong legal support to our clients.”
With Clark on board, Nelsons reinforces its reputation as one of the East Midlands’ leading law firms, combining trusted legal knowledge with modern business understanding to meet the changing needs of clients across the UK.
