Background-
Yoon & Yang has opened a new branch office in Gangbuk, northern Seoul, extending the South Korean law firm’s reach beyond its Gangnam headquarters.
Myung Soo Lee, senior managing partner at Yoon & Yang, told Asia Business Law Journal that the firm wanted to close the physical gap with corporate clients in central business district areas such as Gwanghwamun, City Hall, Jongno and Euljiro. He said the goal was to meet clients more often and spot legal risks early with proactive counsel.
Located at the Seoul Finance Centre, the Gangbuk office will run without a separate branch head or managing partner, a structure meant to streamline decisions and boost operational agility, Lee said.
Senior partners from each practice area will manage client matters directly on site, offering real-time guidance and high-level legal strategy.
Lee said the office would deliver tailored advice across core practice areas including finance, corporate, labour, tax and real estate, along with public audits, police investigations, high-stakes litigation, and competition and antitrust matters. Its location near the Government Complex Seoul, he added, would help expand the firm’s legislative and public policy advisory work.
Asked about further expansion plans, Lee said the firm’s immediate focus is establishing the Gangbuk office while continuing to strengthen its advisory capabilities.
The Gangbuk office marks Yoon & Yang’s first domestic expansion since the firm formed through the merger of Yoon & Partners and Roh & Yang. Beyond Seoul, the firm maintains offices in Tashkent and Jakarta, and works with VILAF in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. The firm currently employs 368 Korean-licensed lawyers.
