KPMG in Portugal has announced the launch of KPMG Law, a new firm entering the country’s legal sector with a multidisciplinary offering that combines technical expertise, sector insight and international reach through close ties with KPMG’s Advisory, Assurance and Tax practices.
The firm aims to support organisations facing increasingly interconnected legal, regulatory, financial, technological and operational challenges, helping them navigate critical decisions, complex transactions and transformation programmes that require an integrated approach.
KPMG Law is led by Luís Magalhães, Partner and member of the Executive Committee of KPMG in Portugal, and begins operations with seven partners covering areas including public law and litigation, competition and EU regulation, corporate and cross-border transactions, environment and ESG, real estate and construction, and private clients.
The firm is closely embedded within KPMG’s wider structure, allowing it to draw on multidisciplinary expertise across tax, financial, regulatory and technological areas. Technology forms a core part of its foundation, with the firm built without legacy systems to support the growing role of artificial intelligence, automation and data management in legal services.

Vitor Ribeirinho, Senior Partner and CEO of KPMG in Portugal, said the launch marked a strategic step in the firm’s evolution, strengthening its ability to offer clients an integrated response to increasingly complex challenges. Konstantin von Busekist, Head of KPMG Law EMA, said the move reflected the changing role of legal advisers, who are now expected to act as strategic partners to businesses.
