Background
Lincolnshire-based W&P Legal has expanded its business after becoming a regulated alternative business structure (ABS) and acquiring Leicester-based Bright Legal Solicitors.
The firm, which has more than 20 years of experience in wills and probate, is now licensed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). The change allows W&P Legal to expand its regulated legal offerings and boost its growth potential.
As part of its expansion, W&P Legal has bought Bright Legal Solicitors, a firm known for its work in family law, conveyancing, and litigation. The acquisition adds new expertise to W&P’s service offering and brings three additional staff members into the business, increasing the firm’s total workforce to 23. Bright Legal is led by Parvien Akhtar, a member of the Law Society Council.
According to W&P Legal Managing Director Nick Ash, the acquisition represents the firm’s next strategic move. He explained that many clients had been asking for support beyond wills and probate, and the move allows W&P Legal to meet those needs under one roof.
Ash also said becoming a regulated ABS marks an important milestone. The firm used to operate without regulation, which limited its work, even though a solicitor handled some probate cases. Now, regulation gives the firm more flexibility, stronger credibility, and a better foundation for growth.
Under the new structure, W&P has put its old trading company into run-off and now handles all new work through the regulated ABS. Ash said the firm will focus on growing its position in the wills and private client market and aims for long-term growth through 2032.
Parvien Akhtar said the partnership will help clients by combining the strengths of both firms. She added that the collaboration lets them provide trusted legal advice across more services while keeping high professional standards.
The move marks a significant step forward for W&P Legal as it continues to expand its services and build a stronger regulated practice.
