Key Background

WestJet is growing its Calgary focus city with an increased winter 2025/26 schedule featuring five new year-round non-stop sun flights. Among the seasonal routes are Panama City, Guadalajara, Tepic, Puerto Plata, and Cozumel. The new flights become available for booking early December 2025 and through to April 2026, giving travelers more opportunities for sunny holidays this winter.

These new routes have added a total of 98 cities out of Calgary non-stop, cementing its focus on making Calgary International Airport (YYC) its core world hub. WestJet’s executive vice president and chief commercial officer stated that this addition not only gives more options to travel but even puts WestJet’s focus on being affordable and accessible to Western Canadians to another level.

Apart from these sunspots, WestJet is introducing year-round frequencies Calgary–Mexico City with four weekly frequencies. Its daily Calgary–Tokyo service will also be year-round, allowing more international travel for business and tourist traffic.

Locally, the carrier is increasing seat capacity by providing more than two million seats to 31 Canadian cities outside of Calgary. The new schedule introduces frequency to Regina, Kelowna, Abbotsford, and Prince George with frequencies of 10% to 29%. Domestic improvements are intended to provide convenient connections to flights worldwide while accommodating regional expansion and convenience.

This winter expansion is consistent with the vision of WestJet to build a strong, integrated global gateway at Calgary. The new sun routes do not merely bring warm sunshine to Canadian travelers, but also increase the visibility of the city as an important point of departure for international holidays during winter.
