Background:

International law firm Pinsent Masons has strengthened its Spain team by appointing employment law partner Belén Lavandera from Linklaters. The hire supports the firm’s plan to expand its employment law practice in Spain and help clients handle changing workplace regulations and business deals.

Lavandera has strong experience advising large companies and international private equity funds on complex employment law matters. During her career, she has worked on several major corporate transactions in the Spanish market, handling employment law issues linked to mergers, acquisitions, and business restructuring. Her expertise also covers workforce negotiations, senior executive hiring and departures, and employment-related litigation.

Pinsent Masons said the appointment aligns with its broader plan to strengthen its employment practice in Spain. The firm believes demand for specialist employment advice has increased as companies face stricter labour regulations, growing compliance obligations, and workforce changes linked to corporate deals.

Lavandera has also built a strong reputation for advising boards of directors and remuneration committees. She regularly supports them in designing and implementing incentive plans and executive remuneration policies. In addition, she has handled several complex restructuring processes, some of which have influenced Spain’s regulatory environment.

Commenting on the appointment, Francisco Aldavero, head of the firm’s Madrid office, said Lavandera’s experience will strengthen the firm’s ability to advise clients on challenging employment matters. He noted that her background in restructurings, private equity transactions, and senior executive cases closely matches the firm’s strategic focus and the needs of its clients.

Manfred Schmid, Global Head of Employment & Incentives at Pinsent Masons, said the firm continues to see rising demand for employment advice as labour regulations become more complex. He added that Lavandera’s experience will support companies dealing with compliance issues and cross-border employment matters, particularly those linked to evolving legislation such as the EU Pay Transparency Directive.

Lavandera said she was pleased to join a firm known for its global reach and sector-focused approach. She added that the firm’s collaborative culture and growing international practice create strong opportunities to support clients facing modern workforce challenges.

The hire follows other recent strategic appointments by Pinsent Masons in Spain, including litigation and arbitration partner Fernando Tallón, further reinforcing the firm’s presence in the Spanish legal market.
