Background:

A Bristol-based charity helping young people facing homelessness, 1625 Independent People, has received a £25,000 end-of-year donation from law firm Bevan Brittan. The funding is part of the firm’s £100,000 annual festive donation, distributed among four charities across the UK.

This marks the third consecutive year that Bevan Brittan has supported its office charities with substantial contributions, alongside ongoing fundraising initiatives. Earlier this year, a team of Bristol colleagues raised £20,000 for 1625 Independent People by completing a challenging trek up Mount Kilimanjaro.

The funding will help the charity offer support, advice, housing, and group activities. These programs aim to help vulnerable young people develop independent living skills, access education and employment, and build healthy relationships.

Kate Hicks, partner and community engagement lead at Bevan Brittan in Bristol, said: “We are proud to support 1625 Independent People once again. Our colleagues are deeply committed to the local community, and we hope this donation makes a tangible difference in the months and years ahead.”

Kim James-Coggins, corporate partnerships and communications manager at 1625 Independent People, added: “We are extremely grateful for Bevan Brittan’s support. Contributions like this provide a lifeline to the young people who rely on our services.”

The other charities benefiting from the £25,000 donation include Age UK Birmingham, supporting older people; Zarach in Leeds, focused on ending child bed poverty; and Thames Reach in London, tackling homelessness.

Bevan Brittan’s community engagement also emphasizes volunteering and pro bono legal work, with staff contributing 633 hours of pro bono support in 2024/25 and aiming to surpass this in the current year.
