Background:
An Isle of Man law firm has pledged ongoing financial support to the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS), reinforcing efforts to deliver life-saving emergency care across the island.
Appleby has confirmed it will donate £1,500 each year to GNAAS, which provides critical care services by air and road across the North East of England, Cumbria, North Yorkshire and the Isle of Man. Since March 2022, GNAAS has operated in partnership with Manx Care and serves as the island’s official emergency air ambulance provider.
The charity’s specialist medical teams have attended more than 70 incidents on the Isle of Man since operations began, delivering advanced pre-hospital treatment to patients who are seriously ill or injured. These services include complex procedures at the scene, such as pre-hospital anaesthesia and blood transfusions, as well as arranging direct helicopter transfers to specialist trauma centres in the UK when required.
Appleby said its annual donation would contribute toward essential equipment, specialist training and operational costs needed to maintain the service on the island. GNAAS estimates it must raise at least £124,000 each year to cover the additional costs associated with operating in the Isle of Man.
Mandy Karsa, Isle of Man fundraiser for GNAAS, welcomed the firm’s support, saying the contribution would help ensure the charity can continue assisting critically ill and injured patients across the community.
